Youth Reaching Out.

I was inspired today. I am usually inspired by at least one thing each day but I was seriously drawn and I had to write about this. I guess when you do it as a part of everyday life, you don’t notice how big of a difference it is making. So it hit me today, kids today have some wonderful role models.

Did You Know:

~One in every 330 Americans will develop cancer by the age of 20. On the average, 12,500 children and adolescents in the U.S. are diagnosed with cancer each year.

~ 963 million people across the world are hungry.

~ Every year, between 6 and 8 million dogs and cats enter US Shelters.

There are countless statistics the show how this world is in need.

Did you know:

You can help?

Every year since I have been at Penn State University and for every year following I will participate in and donate to, THON. THON is a 46 hour dance marathon for children with pediatric cancer and the search for a cure. STudents work hard year round to make sure that this event goes off without a hitch and that we do as much as we can to help take the pain of a sick child away for just a few days. To learn more go to: http://www.THON.org

Since I was a sophomore in High School I have been a Big Sister through Big Brothers Big Sisters. If you think something as small as sharing your life with someone will not make a difference, you are VERY wrong. I have watched kids grow so much and see how they can be amazing people even if they come from less amazing backgrounds. 1 hour a week can make a difference. Check them out at: http://www.bbbs.org

What inspired me to write this today is a video that Selena Gomez put on her You Tube page. J.T. Austin and her traveled to Puerto Rico because they had found out about an island where tons of dogs were being left basically to die. You can view the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0u3zsBZ5sv4&feature=channel_page

You can also visit the website Islanddog.org to learn more about the Island, and how you can help or adopt a dog.

The Jonas Brothers have their website , Change For Children, (www.Changeforchildren.org) which offers others to donate to one of four causes the Brothers have chosen. One cause the Brothers strongly support is the cause for Juvenile Diabetes. This stems from Nick Jonas’ personal relationship to the disease.

There are countless numbers of way to donate and to make a difference in the world around you. If you are a student, look up different organizations at your school. You may find that there are clubs like ProLife Club, S.A.D.D, Community Service Teams, and others. Better yet, grab a group of friends and join or create a group together.

If you are an adult, ask your company if they are part of any organizations or charities that you can be involved with.  If they aren’t involved in anything, ask if you can head something up.

When I look back on my life, I realize how lucky I have been to live the life I have lived. I love sharing my life with those around me. I love being able to make a difference in the lives of others, even if it is handing over old clothes to the Salvation Army or putting leftovers into an aluminum try and taking it to a homeless shelter. There is SO MUCH we can do!

When I look at young people today like Selena Gomez, the Jonas Brothers, and countless others who have taken their money and given it away or taken time out of their lives to do something that will make a difference, I think what good role models kids have today.

My message to you. DO SOMETHING! No matter how small, you have the power to make a difference.  So what are you waiting for?!? Take that old sweater that has been collecting dust in your closet and head over to the Salvation Army, someone is bound to make good use of it!
